English Composition II is a college prerequisite course which enables students to achieve the expected learning outcomes, as well as other courses for the undergraduate students. English Composition II is a writing course that will help students to acquire and continue to develop a more advanced level in writing and reading skills than Composition I. This course is focused on advanced critical reading, where it will help students to develop better thinking about their own writing and writing processes by reading various articles and excerpts. This course will help students to develop essays with an emphasis on analytical writing, argumentative essays, and papers based on research of readings in various academic disciplines. Also, this course has assignments that will help students to strengthen summary, analysis of sources, critical thinking, organization, thesis statement, prepositions, APA, sentence structure, and grammar.
Furthermore, this course has a blog page (accessible through the CUNY Academic Commons page) that will help students in the process of writing. The focus of this blog is public writing, in which each student will have one chance to compose and submit a post summarizing a specific reading. In the blog, students are also able to find lecture notes, information that will help on grammar quizzes, tutorials on writing, grammar, and readings.
