Literature Review: Paradox of Progress

Many White Americans believe that racism has been diminished, in actuality racism is quite alive and serves as barriers of progression for people of color.

There is a major conflict of racism in America’s society where White Americans believe that racism towards people of color is diminished. In actuality many White Americans are ignorant to the own hidden racist agendas due to their lack of knowledge towards other races cultural and ethical ideas, in which leads to barriers of progression towards people of color. The ultimate burden of mankind is the lack of unity fostered by a fear of accepting others for their ethnic and racial differences.  Baldwin (1963) mentions the mental trap that white people are continuously revolved in, being confined in their roots of deep hatred towards black and minorities (p. ???). The hatred is for reasons unforeseen, Carol Anderson (2016) demonstrated the how enraged many white republicans Americans were when Obama won the presidency (p. ???). Their true colors were displayed by the amount of effort involved in un-electing Barack Obama. Laws were manipulated to prevent liberal voter engagement in the future, and restrictions were placed on Obama’s administration. They were bothered by the appointment of a black president; it was a blatant refusal to accept him or his ideologies. Baldwin (1963) acknowledges that there is no gain in believing whites will accept blacks but instead it is our duty to accept them with love because hatred is all that has been known to them (p. ??). It would take conscious efforts to change and break old the old hate habits, but it takes more effort to continue them.
