Yes we should have a standard form of American English just for the purpose of common knowledge when writing a paper or article, reading or teaching a class. Having a Standard form of American English gives the writer a structure when writing and gives the reader a better understanding of what are they looking at when knowing the Standard form.

Yes, we should have Standard American English because it identifies who we are. Also, it’s nothing wrong with English language having different accents that identify who we are. Also, the way we speak can help identify how we write in English. There nothing wrong with the black English; however, I believe that slang is not always the best way to communicate when talking in a educational setting. Overall, all English countries should have a standard form of English because it will show who there are.

We should have Standard form of American English because it is essential when it comes to the outside world. In terms of the professional world, Standard form of American English is needed to find jobs, write professional emails/ letters, write a personal statement, etc. When one is writing an important email to their boss, one can’t use the same language used to text friends. Therefore, by having a Standard form of American English, it allows people to easily use it when it is needed. In addition, by having a Standard form of American English, it would be easier for the younger generations when exposed to the real world. Today, people are so used to using abbreviations and acronyms, it’s sometimes difficult to even write a proper email to a professor. Overall, there should be a Standard form of American English because it is needed when it comes to professionalism.

I do believe that we should have a standard form of American English because different English speaking countries use different terms when speaking and writing, so there would be a way differentiate both English languages. Also, speaking it would simplify things, making conversations feel more bland and short.

I believe we should have a standard form of American English enforced to a degree. Educating people of all backgrounds to utilize language as a tool to have a clearer shot at success in the business field will help prepare graduates to be job-ready. People will judge the language you use whether it be in an email or in person to base off credentials and level of education one has received. Although language is a form of communication which defines who you are, its rules are controlled by what the language must convey to others. A standard form of American English will benefit the world as a whole by having a base of communication, however other languages must be respected in doing so. Keeping a balance between respect and communication will ensure a balance of the power language contains.

American English is very diverse language. Almost every part of the states have a different way of speaking the language. The northern part speak a different American English than the southern part. This sometimes make it hard for them to communicate and that why I am in view that we should have a standard form of American English. Having a standard form of American English will not only help in better communication but will also improve the trading among different state. According to the New York times, states like to trade with states that they have the say type of American English. This means that if we standardize the American English the will be a better trading

As the United States continues to diversify, and as businesses grow increasingly globally-minded, it is vital to standardize the written and spoken English language. This is of course, separate from local and cultural vernaculars that are specific to particular communities like Spanglish and Black English, and from ESL. The standardization of English is necessary for academic and professional settings. If a student is unfamiliar with the language and usage within their classroom, they’re immediately put at a disadvantage. There are remedial courses specifically for that reason, to increase equity among students. In a professional setting, a person must communicate with their coworkers, as well as clients and associates from other backgrounds. Even if a person isn’t in an office setting, their communication skills are vital. Freelance artists must be able to solicit their work on websites, retail workers must be able to speak to products’ value, and military personnel must be able to communicate throughout the ranks. In order to prepare someone for a life where they can seek higher education and succeed in their chosen field. there must be a standard written and spoken English that is taught as early as possible.

Yes we should have a standard form of American English because people need to have the knowledge of writing a journal or an article in proper way. Also, the Standard from of American English helps the writer to find the better structure when it comes writing. The reader can get a better knowledge of understanding of what they are reading when they know a Standard form of American English.

I believe that we should not have a standard form of American English because it would set a strict guideline and/or structure to the way we speak in America. English is a universal language and it should not be further constricted into “American English”. I believe that there should be a standard form of English in general as opposed to just America (and I believe that there is). Having a standard form of American English would alter the ways in which individuals already speak English. It is almost similar to asking an individual to learn a new language. Having a standard form of American English is basically saying to the individuals who already speak English that “you do speak English, however it is not the right way in America”.

It would be ideal that we have a standard form of American English so we can have a clear reference to based our language on. If I were confused or in an argument with somebody on a pronunciation or spelling of a word, I would want the American English form of that word. I do not want to know what is the Spanglish form of that word or the Afro English form of that word. A standard form will also help clarify the learning aspect of American English. If foreigners/immigrants/tourists wish to learn American English they would all be learning the same language instead of learning the language based of what type of English their family speaks/writes or even a teacher speaks. Although I know Spanish based on my Caribbean background, if I were to travel to Spain I would not have a clear understanding of their Spanish even though it is still the Spanish language. Having a standard American English would eliminate the confusion because it would only be one possible form.

I believe that we should have a standard form of American English. I believe so because when we have a standard language it is easier to communicate and more efficient. In many workplaces its most likely the standard form of American English will be utilized. This means that those who are more proficient in the utilization of Standard American English are more likely to hired. Many immigrants come to america and carry their dialect and language that hinders their ability to succeed and get jobs. Not being able to communicate in a different country is a huge problem and causes others to judge those who are unable to speak correctly.

I believe that we should have a Standard American English because it can make it easier to communicate in professional environments. It would be easier to communicate because in a professional environment, everyone would know the same language regardless of background then after work everyone can talk however they want. It would be harder for a newspaper to be written in multiple forms of English so it would be better to write it in one form of English that everyone is expected to know.

yes,I belief that we should have a standard form of American English because American is about immigrant and immigrant contributed something new to the American language makes English specials. People use English to communicate with other people and their people that comes to american do not speck English.

We should have a standard form of American English. If one nation has too many languages, that would create more misunderstanding and hardship. If there were two people who spoke different styles of English, but lived close to each other, chances are that only one of them will understand the certain form of English. For example, if there was a warning sign that gave an instruction, and only half of the United States population understood it, the ones who misunderstood it may have an accident. It would be less complicated if there was only one way to speak English.

Majority of people will have different arguments concerning the objectivity of standard American English. According to me, and for the sake of many with different views, that i will be open to discuss, i think America having a standard form of English is extremely impossible. Why do i say so? First, I would like to refer ourselves back to the historical period of slavery. America ironically was founded from the slaves trade. That is where the name United State of America was coined. Many people from different parts of the world found themselves in America after slave period which means they came along with their form of languages and are speaking in different dialects. Second, English is not universal language. So focusing on a standard American English if in the first place we had none is impossible.

  16. Porshe Maysonet

We should not be required to have a standard form in English because I feel in America were so widely diverse our universal language should be more polyglot. I feel if we have a standard form it kind of makes the native English superior to any language and it also takes away from the diverse culture. America was founded off a lot of cultures put into one country and I feel like we should have to be able to speak multiple languages not only to accept every culture. But, to also to make everyone widely educated about every culture.

  17. Jalysa Herrar

Having a standard form of American English is the easiest way to ensure we can all communicate. As Rob Jenkins argues in his article We Must Help Students Master Standard English, ” The only purpose of language is to communicate.” If we all learn different dialects from different parts of the country with no common language, it would be impossible to communicate to the fullest extent. Jenkins’ sentence ends by saying, “if the language or dialect you use in a particular situation allows you to do so, then it is effective. In New York we use slang such as “facts,” “deadass,” or “brick,”to communicate with each other. These aren’t widely understood, but due to us having a standard English we are able to translate to others.

  18. ISRAEL ADJEI

The word standard is not used as a perspective in the article “We Must Help Students Master Standard English.” neither it is used as a flag that all must salute nor a king all must hail but rather describes an acceptable norms. These norms can help also to communicate effectively. Mastery of standard English alone doesn’t not guarantee professional success. But the lack of proficiency can turn into a major obstacle. It is not a matter of of facilitating commerce through shared dialect. In American professional life, people turn to judge others how well the use standard English which is unfair. In other words,I will say that the standard of English is not the only way people can survive

  19. Pende Sawadogo

We should have a standard form of American English because as America is a center of people from diverse origins, diverse cultures, and then diverse languages, thus it is logic to accept and understand that foreign cultures specially their languages can be integrated to American one to form a standard language which must be tolerate in America’s society. As what is argued in Rob Jenkins’ article, “the only purpose is to communicate” So what matter is to interact and understand with each other, not the perfection matter here.

  20. saul bonilla

Yes, certainly because having a standardized English will increase the level of English speakers and also it facilitates the way of communication. Standard English is the type of English that’s suitable for use in every type of written or spoken situation. Standard English prevents the language from being harder to communicate and at the same time easier to learn. One important fact about Standard English’ is that is familiar to most teachers and to some learners too through public documents, the media, literature, etc.

  21. Guevara Torres

Yes, but only if Standard American English were to be used as a baseline that people can have as a point of reference when speaking in English. A standard such as this would help people who are just learning to speak the English language, especially since learning any language is not exceptionally easy. Anything other than that would cause a restriction on diversity since the way someone speaks is integral to their identity. So, a Standard American English should be more of a guideline than a requirement that could be encouraged, but not enforced.

  22. Demi Morris

I feel we should have one form of English. Why do we need American or British in front of English? I grew up in Jamaica and they use British English then once I moved to America they have American English. Yes, some of the words are spelled differently colour or color and honour or honor. The two English structures are very similar than differences in my opinion.
