Cherry Coke

My grandmother’s death on August 13, 2013, represents something that is greater than something any human could possibly understand. Some would argue that her test on Earth to be judged as good or evil was finally completed and she was ready to enter into her new, more permanent home wherever that may be. Others would argue that this is simply a process of the cycles of nature that everyone must go through at some point in their life, but the time that it comes is all based on so many factors of chance that, once again, can’t be comprehended by even the most genius human minds. No matter the reasoning behind this process, it can be agreed upon that this is a necessary step that all humans must go through as there is no way to ever prevent this process.

On Monday, February 25, 2019, the Rangers completed the final steps in what is known as the death of their team of old, the team I had grown up with and learned to love so much. The reasoning behind this form of death, which was done by voluntarily trading their old (yet lovable) players away (rather than the forceful death that was anything but voluntary for my grandmother) in order to achieve greatness in the future. In hockey, there is no such thing as permanent death as teams may linger in the ashes for decades only to rise again like a phoenix for prosperity and new life to the franchise.

Both my grandmother’s death and the death of the Rangers I had grown to love reveal that death is a necessary step in any process. Whether that death creates something greater for the future remains to be seen. Nonetheless, the pain that comes from both of these deaths may differ in magnitude but still pierce through the heart nonetheless at just the thought of these beautiful beings never able to roam the Earth the same way again.

Another new idea that I see here is that death can be most painful because time doesn’t stop afterwards. Time and life keep moving forward. This new idea became especially clear when you talk about hockey. The players come and go, but hockey continues.
